Mall Show: The CTAA exhibit area was full of displays, a tower and the mall was packed with people this year. Doug Beard, CTAA Mall show Chair, and numerous other members helped out at the booth during the show. The booth had lots of artifacts on display and hundreds of people were able to enjoy some past scouting events depicted at the booth. Bell Tower: Bill Filan designed and pre-built a tower for the outdoor chapel bell at camp. A group of CTAA members, under Bill’s direction, then assembled the 12 foot high tower and displayed it throughout the show. A few days after the show, Doug Beard, Gary Wylie, Pete Picciano and Rodney Lucas delivered the bell and tower to camp. It will be erected at the outdoor chapel when weather and man power conditions permit.

A Scout is Reverent: A CTAA memorial fund has been set up in Spider Hyatt’s name with the possible use of funds to be for a museum building. Spider was 101 and the oldest Eagle Scout in the Baden Powell Council, possibly the oldest Eagle Scout in the United States. Over $12,700 has been donated from his family, his estate or by Scouters for this project. According to close friends of Spider, his dream was to have a museum of Scout artifacts that would show the rich history of Camp Tuscarora and Council. Any one wishing to make a donation or give artifacts, may contact Doug Beard or Pete Picciano. (Pete 607-467-3299 or RangrPeter@aol.com)

Monthly Meeting: The CTAA has a meeting the first Tuesday of each month at the Landmark Church on Court Street in Binghamton. Please feel free to attend and voice your opinion, offer suggestions, etc.

The Tuscarora Alumni Annual Dinner was held on Sunday, January 16th at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church,
Chenango St., Binghamton. A roast beef dinner was enjoyed by over 50 people. Rodney Lucas was honored and surprised with the lifetime achievement award. Rodney was almost at a lost for words. Scouter Bill and other audience members voiced many compliments and achievements.

Eight Camp Staff were sponsored and recognize for helping the youth of our Council at the dinner.  Camp staff touches hundreds of youth each year. The experiences gained at camp help to promote Scouting values and develop our youth to be leaders in future years. Anyone wishing to sponsor staff for these events may send donations to Doug Beard and label it as “staff sponsorship”.

Memories: Scouting has given us all many fond memories. Please take the time to do a little bit for Scouting to help the young men now on their trail to Eagle. We are striving to help in our association by doing some projects at Camp, recognizing
Camp Staff for their efforts and creating a museum to share the memories with these youth. Many Alumni are still active with Scouting. Please continue your support in some way. You are doing a service to youth that will be evident in the future success of these young people. Thanks for all your help and support.
